1: John says in 19:20 that Jesus was crucified “near the city”. That implies that he was outside the walls of the city. Josephus, in the War of the Jews 5.4 describes Jerusalem and the walls. He indicates that there were two walls. Josephus describes one around the “upper city” and one around the city that is west of temple. He then describes a third wall. The foundations of the third wall would be laid by King Agrippa (41-44 AD) during the reign of Claudius Caesar (41-54 AD). Therefore I believe that there was no third wall at the time of the crucifixion.

2: There are traditionally 14 “stations of the cross”. These are events that occured between the time when Jesus is condemned to the time his body is placed in the tomb, and are found along the Via Dolorosa.

1. Jesus is condemned to death. [today] Antonia courtyard.

3. Jesus falls the first time. [today] Doorway.
