Thoughts:
1: The word used to describe Salome is “little girl”. The same word used by Jesus for a twelve year old.
2: Antipas was far too smart a politician to ever promise a woman, such as Salome is portrayed in popular culture, with such an open-ended promise. But a little girl might well seem safe to him. Certainly he would not have offered her half his kingdom for a dance she had already performed.
